Your one Early Decision application

1 · Where to spend it

Use it on Boston College.

Rule — Ratio before points. Villanova University shows the widest Early Decision gain in points. The answer ranks by the published ratio instead — Boston College admitted its Early Decision applicants at 2.4x the rate of everyone else, Villanova University at 2.3x — so the answer is Boston College.

Most of this is decided by the school. Your profile moves it a little, and this page is about where that little is worth spending.

This result is a data-driven prediction and does not guarantee admission.

Why this answer

The schools on your list that qualify, ranked. The first is the answer; the others are the case for it.

  1. 1. Boston College admitted 33.4% of its Early Decision applicants against 13.8% of everyone else in the same pool — 2.4x (Common Data Set 2024-2025), and your SAT 1460 is inside its admitted middle 50% (1440–1540).
  2. 2. Villanova University admitted 59.8% of its Early Decision applicants against 25.9% of everyone else in the same pool — 2.3x (Common Data Set 2025-2026), and your SAT 1460 is inside its admitted middle 50% (1395–1510).
  3. 3. Lehigh University admitted 47.4% of its Early Decision applicants against 26.8% of everyone else in the same pool — 1.8x (Common Data Set 2025-2026), and your SAT 1460 is inside its admitted middle 50% (1370–1500).

Why not Tufts University (3.8x): the largest multiple on your list, but your SAT 1460 sits below its admitted range (1470–1560), and the multiple is measured on a pool you would not be competing in.

How to read these figures, and where they come from

This compares two rates the school published for two groups of applicants. The Early Decision pool is not a random slice of the applicants — recruited athletes, legacy applicants and QuestBridge matches are counted inside it — so this is a difference between the school’s two pools, not a multiplier on your own chances.

Where a figure is labelled Common Data Set, it comes from the school's own annual filing for the cycle named beside it — not from a federal dataset.

Chance that every school on this list says no, and what it would be if you added the two anchors below. 12.5% → 5.5%

This multiplies each school’s published admit rate as if the decisions were independent. They are not — the same transcript is read by every office — so treat it as a look at the shape of the list, not a forecast about you.

How these are estimated

These are estimates. Regular starts from the school’s admit rate outside Early Decision — everyone who did not apply early, from the same filing — or from its published admit rate where the school filed no Early Decision counts. Early Decision starts from the Early Decision admit rate the school filed. Both take one factor for where your test score sits against the range that school admitted: ×0.71 below its 25th percentile; inside the range or at or above its 75th, no adjustment — we never print an estimate above the rate the school reported, because that rate counts every admit, including those admitted for reasons a test score can't show. The ×0.71 rests on our assumption about who applies (35% of applicants below the range, 45% inside it, 20% above) — no school publishes that split, and we apply the same split to the early pool. The rate a school filed for its early pool includes recruited athletes and legacy applicants; the estimate does not take them out. No estimate is printed above 90%. Because the factor is the same on both, the two estimates stand in the ratio the school’s own filing shows — its Early Decision admit rate over the admit rate of everyone else, the multiple printed on its card. Your grades, essays and activities are not inputs to either figure — they move your own result, and no published number says by how much.
