# PrepToDone

> PrepToDone is a US college admissions readiness tool. It scores a student's
> profile against the published admissions data of 395 US universities and
> returns a school-by-school reach / match / safety classification, a gap
> analysis, and a 12-month action plan. Every number traces back to a cited,
> public source.

PrepToDone does not predict whether a student will be admitted. It reports
where a student's profile stands relative to each university's admitted
class, using official data. The output is a preparedness read, not an
admission guarantee.

## Data sources

- Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) — federal, U.S. Department of Education.
- College Scorecard — federal, U.S. Department of Education.
- Common Data Set (CDS) — the standardized survey universities publish about themselves. This is the colleges' own reporting, not federal data.

School-level fields (acceptance rate, admitted SAT/ACT 25th and 75th
percentiles, admitted GPA) come from these sources. The score engine runs on
the student's own inputs — academic record, standardized testing, activities,
and awards — and compares them to that published data.

## Policies

- No admission prediction. PrepToDone never reports a percentage figure for being admitted or rejected. It reports profile position against admitted-student data only.
- Sources are cited. Every school-level figure attributes to IPEDS, College Scorecard, or the Common Data Set. IPEDS and College Scorecard are labelled federal; the Common Data Set is not.
- No inferred or scraped numbers. School figures are read from official data, not estimated from reviews or third-party rankings.
- Disclaimer on every predictive surface: "Results are data-based estimates and do not guarantee admission."

## How the classification is computed

There is no weighting, no model, and no learned parameters. For test scores the
placement is arithmetic against each school's published percentiles:

- At or above the published 75th percentile — at or above the admitted range.
- Between the 25th and 75th percentile — inside the admitted range.
- Below the 25th percentile — a reach on test score.

It is deterministic and reproducible: the same inputs and the same published
band return the same answer every time, and it can be checked against the
school's own published figures.
